taylorMeet Aaron D. Taylor, author of Alone with a Jihadist

Aaron D. Taylor was raised in a Midwestern charismatic church with the belief that Christians had a duty to take up arms in defense of their government and the ideals of freedom. He supported our actions in Iraq and asserted that only one political party was the appropriate home for true believers of God. After a meeting in London with Khalid, a militant jihadist, Taylor came away with a deep questioning of the ideals that, up to that moment, formed a cornerstone for his theology. In Alone with a Jihadist, Aaron Taylor shares his personal revelation that Christians are not to be supporters of military or other violent solutions to the world’s problems.

Do you offer your services as a speaker for workshops, conferences, or retreats? If so, what are the titles of some of your popular topics?

For my missionary work, I teach a workshop called Simplythe Story.  In the workshop, I teach pastors, evangelists, youth workers, and missionaries how to tell simple stories from the Bible and facilitate interactive discussions around the stories.  I’m also taking the message of “Alone with a Jihadist” to whatever venue I can find, so if there’s any group of people looking for greater insight into the “Gospel of the Kingdom” that Jesus taught,  I’d be happy to speak to them.

Would you say you are an extrovert or introvert?

I’m definitely an extrovert, although I have the studious nature of many introverts.  When I’m reading a good book, the world disappears.

Tell us about some activities you enjoy doing during your free time.

I enjoy reading, walking, watching movies, playing the guitar–and pretending like I’m the next American Idol–when no one is watching of course.

Do you have a favorite bible verse and or quote you wish to share?

My favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:38-39 which says, “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  This is always the verse I turn to when I need spiritual encouragement.

What one piece of advice did someone give that still sticks with you to this day?

I can think of two that come to mind right away.  One is from a substitute band teacher in high school.  He said to the band, “Whatever you want to do in life, find someone who’s doing it, ask them how they got to where they are, and take their advice.”  The other is from a Bible teacher friend of mine that I respect deeply.  Her name is Dianne Kannady.  One day she said to me, “Aaron, if the only source of information you had about  Christianity  was the New Testament, how would that be different from the Christianity that we have today?”  I’ve never forgotten that.

What brings you the most joy?

What brings me the most joy is when I see loving kindness in action.

ABOUT THE BOOKAlone with a Jihadist Cover

Alone With A Jihadist is not just another book about Islamic-Christian relations. It is far more than that. This book may very well be the solution to end all religious/quasi-political warfare. While many fundamentalist/evangelicals tend to ascribe to a Zionist theology, which believes that it is good to be at war with anyone who opposes the Christian right, to expedite the glorious return of the Messiah, there is one crusader, Aaron Taylor, who believes otherwise.Taylor believes that the church has sadly missed the most pronounced message of Jesus Christ, the message of peace.

The very Bible, which Christians read, refers to their founder as The Prince of Peace. Despite this, many Christians support warmongering and unnecessary bloodshed rather than peacemaking. In a room for seven hours with a radical Muslim,Taylor shares the story from his face-to-face encounter, of how Islamic people view the United States of America, our present Administration, and the state of the Christian Church. It is one thing to look at Christianity from a Christians’ perspective, which is typically an altruistic viewpoint, but things change quite a bit when Christianity is viewed through the eyes of Muslims. Taylor says, “Their [Muslims] view is one every Christian must hear!” This is the engaging story of that meeting.

Romans 8:38-39 is one of my favorite verses as well.

I am sorry that I could not be a part of this tour – it sounds like an eye opening read. I would love to win a copy though!

Thank you for introducing your readers to Aaron D. Taylors, book “Alone with a Jihadist.

This book is relevant in light of the growing Muslim relegion and thought provoking. Taylor is bold enough to take a position that many Christians may feel is disagreeable. However, while not yet commenting on his position, Christian conduct must line up with the Word of God.

This is so true Linda. I am adamant about Christian conduct lining up with the Word of God. You know last night I was watching the President’s speech and when I heard the heckling from men who most likely claim Christ it bothered me. Aaron’s book should not only prove too be something to mend the Christian/Muslim relationship but a book to show all Christians what our conduct should really be. Not to say that the word does not show it through the example of Christ but for some reason many Christians miss the point!
