Book Review: KnockOut Entrepreneur

Every now and then you read a book that surprises you. That is what reading Knockout Entrepreneur by George Foreman did to me. It surprised me!

Foreman does and excellent job of making the reader feel as though he is sitting with you sharing his views, experiences, and knowledge about what it really takes to be a successful entrepreneur. From sharing his story about the George Foreman Grill to the ideas to stimulate your success, Mr. Foreman does an excellent job of keeping it real for the intended reader.

The bottom line is that there is a lot of junk out there that offers no real value of what it really means to become a success. People are money hungry these days and will feed you anything to make a buck. In the end you are left scratching your head and wondering what the next step really is.  I can honestly say that I could not put down the book. Every page of Knockout Entrepreneur has something of value. Whether is a good story, a good laugh, some stern truth or a practical tip, there is some value.

fysl_cover_fullFind Your Strongest Life by Marcus Buckingham is a book that every woman needs to read. It inspires you to find out who you are, how you tick, and what you can do with the ticks. Marcus does a great job of cutting to the chase and telling it like it is when it comes to women getting real and discovering their strongest self.

I was thrilled to see a Strong Life test. I discovered that my strongest life is found in teaching and creating. Well, I knew that. It was just confirmed by taking the test.

As you read the book you will discover facts, read some eye opening research, and see that many women are living a life based on myths more so than truth. Reading the stories of women seeking will help you to see that you are not alone on this journey.

Over the past few weeks I have been reading a very good book to my little guy. Every night before we go to bed we pull out 100 Bible Stories – 100 Bible Songs. The CD is already in the player, waiting for me to hit the “play” button.

What I love about this book is that is like a devotion that you can use to teach your child more about the greatness of God. Each story reads quickly, provides a line to one the 100 Bible Songs on the two CD set, and it even has a good section for beginning readers to participate in.

While it does skip some pertinent stories, I think it covers the gamut of what a child needs in order to get a good idea of what is in God’s Word. You will even find a corresponding scripture for each story and  that you can in your reading time as well; especially for older children.

In my quest to bring good reading suggestions to those who read Mom Unplugged, I decided to share a book on the topic of business. I know that there are many who read this blog who are entrepreneurs; so I don’t think it will hurt to share a business book or resource every now or then.

I recently had the pleasure to read Collapse Of Distinction by Scott McKain and I have to say that it is one of the most interesting books about running business that I have ever read. I usually get pretty bored reading books on business because the books don’t speak to me but rather they speak at me. I am an engager and love to interact with what I read.

When I was contacted and asked to read this book I was not quite sure what I would get. I love study books but many have disappointed me. However, when I opened up this book by Tom B. Clarke, I was pleasantly surprised by what my eyes saw.

A Topical Treasury of Proverbs, takes the book of wisdom and helps you to find scriptures on various topics. The chapters in Proverbs read more as sayings various chapter, than an actual chapter in a book. However, the author has taken the time to take each and every verse in the book of Proverbs and classify each one under one or more of a hundred topics.

In a way it is like a concordance, but what Clarke does is add the entire scripture, using the New English Translation, right in the book. Of course I think everyone needs to open their Word to study effectively; but a feature like this one, makes one’s study time more pleasant.
