Insight #1 – Be You

46 views 3 Comments

In “Take me as I Am” Mary says “So take me as I am, or have nothing at all. Just take me as I am, or have nothing at all.”

In essence what Mary is saying is that it is important to be You right where you are today. Don’t be someone else and don’t try to live somebody else destiny. And please don’t live your life to please others. You only play to an Audience of One – never forget that!

God made you just as you are; there is nothing wrong with you.

You know when I was a little girl kids and even some adults teased me about my high and wide forehead, my big lips, big hips and behind, and my wide smile with the huge teeth. For years I carried all that negativity and thought I was the ugliest person one earth. I even added more stuff to the mix by saying I had big feet and ankles, big eyes, and oh the list goes on. So as I got older I would dress in tight clothing, accentuate my breast, and wear hair styles that hid my face and made my lips look a little smaller.

I was trying to hide the ‘me’ I was. And I did not only in a physical sense but in a mental and spiritual sense too. I was in the “tough” crowd in high school and I tried to be like others so that people wouldn’t see the real ‘me’. I even did it as an adult. Just like Mary I had jumped into the sauce in high school and I was sinking fast. I was not a drug addict but I drank a lot and dated mostly drug dealers and thugs.

Now don’t judge me because there are many of you who have been there or may still be there because you want to hide the You that God created you to be.

Don’t you slap God in the face like that. Listen to this:

Psalms 17:18 tells you that You are the apple of God’s eye. When he made you baby he broke the mold. There is not another you. Even if you are a twin there is a difference. There is something that sets you apart from the rest.

Now I am not saying be conceited but I am saying have some confidence in who God created you to Be. The Word does not say not think high of yourself; but rather, not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to (Romans 12:3). In other words feel good about you, have what I like to call Christ-confidence, be humble yet not ashamed of what God has given you. Trust in your Creator and move into Just Being You

In order to be You, my sister you have to like You.

Tell it like it really is, my sister!

You know I experienced something similar. I was always teased about my complexion and it made me so self-conscious. I even went to the extreme of buying some skin lightening cream. I always believed if I looked more “white” I would be liked more—but my mother told me, in a not so nice voice, that no matter how much I changed my appearance, it wouldn’t do a damn bit of good, if my spirit was right from within. I didn’t quite get it at the time but she preached it enough until it sank in. My parents also made me realize that no one could take away my intelligence or self-esteem unless I let them and I’d be a fool if I did.

    So today, I’m just ME.

    Beautiful post!

I hear ya Bev! I think what did it for me was one day a man from Africa told me that I had features of an African Queen. That blew me away and I started researching African Tribes. What I learned helped me to see that beauty has so many wonderful layers and that God created a vast array of beautiful people!
