I hear ya Bev! I think what did it for me was one day a man from Africa told me that I had features of an African Queen. That blew me away and I started researching African Tribes. What I learned helped me to see that beauty has so many wonderful layers and that God created a vast array of beautiful people!

Tell it like it really is, my sister!

You know I experienced something similar. I was always teased about my complexion and it made me so self-conscious. I even went to the extreme of buying some skin lightening cream. I always believed if I looked more "white" I would be liked more---but my mother told me, in a not so nice voice, that no matter how much I changed my appearance, it wouldn't do a damn bit of good, if my spirit was right from within. I didn't quite get it at the time but she preached it enough until it sank in. My parents also made me realize that no one could take away my intelligence or self-esteem unless I let them and I'd be a fool if I did.

So today, I'm just ME.

Beautiful post!
