Insight #2 – Like Who You Are

149 views 3 Comments

Listen to Mary from the song “Just Fine” her latest hit song and you hear this line:

“So I like what I see when I’m looking at me When I’m walking past the mirror”

Do you like who you see when you look in the mirror? Forget the moles, the dark eyes, and all of that superficial junk. God’s word tells us in Proverbs 31:30 “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.”

Today’s woman is so busy getting tucked and sucked by doctors trying to be someone other than what she sees in the mirror. Even unto death. Case in point Kanye West’s mother. That was a tragedy that did not have to happen, but unfortunately somewhere Donya West was trying to hide the flaws because she did not like what she saw in the mirror. Even after warnings not to do the surgery she went ahead and made a choice that led to her death.

Today’s woman is busy trying to hide the fact that she has flaws. I found this post with some great examples of how the flaws will eventually show.

We try to hide these flaws because we won’t accept them, embrace them, heal from them and then move on. You can hide it all you want to, it will eventually show.

What about your gifts, talents, accomplishments, and skills? How many of you hide them because you don’t want people to know that you are just that good. That’s right! You are just that good.

God does not create mess. We do that when we try to hide who we are.

You begin to appreciate and like yourself when you know that God designed you fearfully and wonderfully and your soul begins embrace that fact. It’s ok to like you. That is not the sin. The sin is not liking yourself. Now you cannot like some of your ways, but never get to a point where you don’t like you.

Those ways you don’t like can be work on with the help of the Holy Spirit and you can gain victory in those areas of your life.

Liking you is not about your ugly ways; it is about accepting who you are in God’s eyes. When you do that those ugly ways disappear and your beauty blossoms beyond what you physically see in the mirror.

With her “Mary” MS Blige started showing her flaws. There is a scar under her left eye that she hid for quite sometime. When she started to show it, she said she was accepting it because it is a part of what made her who she is today. When asked where it came from she says it does not matter because she has dealt with the issue and buried it. Talk about embracing, healing, and deliverance.

Have you reached this point? I have and it is a wonderful way to live life. Liking you, accepting it all, working on what needs to be worked on, and walking in your purpose. That is something else. And don’t believe the hype that you can’t do these things. I am a living witness and example that through Christ you can do all things.

    Awesome awesome post LaTara.

This is still something I constantly struggle with. I can’t stand looking at myself in the mirror. I find every flaw and then some. Generally I get hung up on the weight issue and can’t see past the weight. I think if only I lose…and then I go into all these things that will be better if only I lose weight.

Your post was just a reminder that God loves me for me not the weight on the outside. It’s about who I am on the inside not the physical things.
