Insights from Mary J. Blige: Living A More Authentic Life

88 views 6 Comments

I have a question for you…What makes you authentic? Do you even know what it means to be authentic? Are you authentic or do you need to discover your authentic self.

Authentic: Having a claimed and verifiable origin or authorship; not counterfeit or copied

Today I want to share with you the wise Word of Mary J. Blige. Let me say that I think I am one of the BIGGEST Mary J. Blige fans on the face of the planet. Ok now that that is out of the way let’s move on.

Mary has been to through a lot in her life and she is not ashamed to share it. She was lost in the sauce and full of pain, turmoil, self-hate, insecurities, and a serious lack of authentic self-esteem. She has shared her life through music for so many years and her last few albums have really blown me away. It is almost as if her goal for the last few years has been to share her journey to authenticity through Christ.

I know a lot about Mary J. Blige’s life. How do I know so much about Mary’s life? Because I have been there done that and if you ever read the book of life through the songs she sings you may jsut see yourself there as well.

She does not hide the fact that is was God who pulled her out of the pit she was in and it is God that keeps His hands all around her keeping her grounded and walking her authentic and purposeful path.

Music is a healing source and an agent for change. That change can be negative or it can be positive. Mary chose the proactive route and my sister you can to.

In her songs you gain insight on the many ways you can reach and live out your authentic life. Of course for every verse, word, or chorus I share God’s Word will help me prove that Mary speaks to all women who need to wake up to authenticity and live out their purpose in the unique manner ordained my God.

So just what are these insights that focus on Authentic living? Well over the next few days we will talk about these insights and how they bring a person into more authentic living.

I would love to know your thoughts on authentic living as we take this journey. Any questions you have, any scriptures you want to share, any thoughts, I want to hear it all.

Nope…gotta disagree with you here my sister! I am her biggest fan! :-) Last night at dinner her name came up as #1 on the men’s list of REAL women (my husband being one of the 2 men – the other married too!!) My girlfriend and I completely agreed. She is indeed a beautiful, real, vulnerable, authentic woman of God.

This post is wonderful, authenticity is bandied around these days as a marketing strategy or what is called too? “transparency?” Let me tell you, I completely agree with you that it has to be connected to living the life of promise that you can only get through the love of God. For me, Christ is my personal connection to God or Love. For me, without love at the center of it all, authenticity is not possible. Because love is the core of authenticity…because my maker made me in love, so if I deviate from that, how can I be authentic. And if I fail to give him the glory, how is authenticity possible
I agree with your assertion! Mary J is authentic to the core not only because we can relate to her real experiences but as you point out, because she gives God the Glory.
And thank you for this lovely Sunday afternoon blessing!
    :-) ???
(and I’m not even on Twitter today, just happen to stop in for a sec and saw your tweet…how divine is that??)

    Julette,

You are so right. The term authenticity is thrown around so much today it is almost sad. Sometimes I wonder how many of those who claim “I am authentic” really are.

Authenticity is tied right into God and without Him in the mix what you really have is a truly empty life. Not until I connected to Him on a higher level with a willingness to yield my free will over to Him, did I really start seeing that beauty of being authentic.

Ok, so we will have to fight for the crown of Mary’s biggest fan but sister we are both living authentically free!
