My Rules To Live By

Posted by LaTara on October 18, 2008

Everyone should have a set of rules they live by to help guide their lives. For me the Bible is my ultimate rule book but overtime I have take the wisdom I have gained and created a few that for me all tie back to God and His Word anyway. Here are my rules to live by:

  • Seek First the Kingdom of God. For me this means that I have add God to every part of my life, making sure that where I am at any given moment is where He intends for me to be. Only by doing what He says will my life be blessed beyond compare.
  • Never Let ‘em See You Sweat. In-other-words roll with the punches and don’t let people get under your skin. There are haters and naysayers in your life and they aren’t going anywhere; but you really don’t have to let them wear you down or make you feel less than what you are worth. You are worth more than rubies in God’s eyes. This has been one rule that has brought me through much in the last few years. I have gotten to the point where I let the haters and naysayers words roll right off.
  • Move Beyond Yourself. Stop making life about YOU. It’s not! Life is about what you do with it, how you live it, and the impact you make on it. Now I am not talking about making money, because that is a fleeting thing that won’t get you far. If you are a selfish, self-centered, or self-imposing individual who exist within your little bubble, then you can never be of any good to anyone else in life. Learn to move beyond yourself. This also includes those who continually live as the victim and never learn to be the victorious being that they were created to be. People who dwell in their mess are just as selfish.
  • Know Who Your Are and Whose You Are. You were created in the image of God who makes no mistakes and does everything with a calculated purpose. To take yourself down to a level any lower than where God has created you is like a slap in His face.
  • Everything For a Reason and a Reason For Everything. Nothing happens by accident; at least that’s how I see it. There is a lesson for everything that occurs in life; we just have to learn to open our eyes and see it.
  • It Is What It Is. Whenever life happens or things just get in the way, I always repeat this phrase. Stuff happens, and you can either choose to dwell in it or learn to rise above it. We can’t stop circumstances from happening in our lives.
  • Love You Like God Does. Okay so this is a hard one and I mean hard. We are not quick to love ourselves; but we are quick to criticize and speak negatively about ourselves. We just need to stop that because God is too Good for us not to see the value of His unconditional love. With this same love we can love ourselves too. That does not mean we are to value ourselves as more important than anyone else but we are to value ourselves.
  • Don’t Fake The Funk. Are you laughing yet? I know people always crack up when I mention this one, but it is true. Have you ever smelled someone who tried to cover up funk with cologne or deodorant. They need to face the fact that if you stink, you just stink. Be real about it and don’t try to hide it because the smell will come out. It’s the same with living. You can’t hide things because what’s done in the dark will come out to light. So just be real. Be you!
  • Live To Serve Others. Yep, I said it! It goes right back to Moving Beyond Yourself. If you are living then there is someone out there for you to help in some way. Whether you want to believe it or not, you life is not about you. WOW! What a concept. Pay attention to some the most successful people in life and you will notice that they are always in the business of helping others. They understand that it is not all about them.

These rules are mine and for my life they work. I would love to know what your rules are.
